Filipino court allows military deal with US amid protests

The Philippine Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that a military accord with the United States was constitutional, paving the way for a greater presence of US forces in the former American colony, as tensions simmer in the South China Sea. Meanwhile, dozens of anti-US activists held protests outside the court, saying the ruling was “untenable” because the deal will make the country “a launching pad for military intervention in the region.”
