Fire breaks out in crowded Sao Paulo slum

A huge fire has broken out in a densely-populated slum in Brazil’s most populous city Sao Paulo. The number of casualties following the incident is still unknown, but authorities say at least 120 residences have been destroyed. Dozens of firefighters and several fire engines were deployed after the fire began at the Paraisopolis favela, a slum where many of the city’s poorest residents live, but the flames quickly engulfed the makeshift structures of the shanty town.
