Firefighters come to rescue of stranded villagers after SW China flood

A river in Zhijin County, China’s southwest Guizhou Province burst its banks following heavy rain in the area on Monday evening, resulting in thousands of people being trapped in surrounding villages. Some 8,685 residents had been relocated as of Tuesday morning. Firefighters’ attempts to transfer villagers to safety are ongoing, and the scope of the search is expanding.
