Firefighters saved a suicidal woman from the roof of a 12-floor-high building in Hutubi County, northwest China’s Xinjiang uyghur autonomous region on Thursday. Video footage of the incident shows the woman standing on the roof of the building, after communicating with the woman for almost one hour, one of the firefighters suddenly rushes to her and brings her down successfully in just two seconds.
China was thought to have one of the highest suicide rates in the world with 23.2 suicides per 100,000 people in the 1990’s but this rate has dropped dramatically to 9.8 per 100,000 in 2011, a 58% drop. Although female suicides in China are thought to outnumber male suicides 3:1.
