First ‘Silk Road’ train arrives in Tehran from China

A train has arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran from China loaded with 32 containers of Chinese goods. It travelled nearly 10,000 kilometers through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
During a ceremony at Tehran’s rail station, attended by the ambassadors of China and Turkmenistan, the head of the Iranian railway company said: “The arrival of this train in fewer than 14 days is unprecedented. The journey was 30 days shorter than the sea voyage from Shanghai to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.” The train will leave every month and its frequency is expected to be increased over time.
