Five years after Baghdad attack, UN remembers some of its ‘best and bravest’

The United Nations has paid tribute to those who were killed in its Iraqi office back in 2003. The bombing of the Canal Hotel in Baghdad on 19 August 2003 claimed the lives of 22 workers, including the top UN envoy in Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. It also wounded more than 150. The UN decided to mark the annual World Humanitarian Day on August 19, the date of the attack.
