A man drove his BMW sedan through a crossroad in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and ran into three other vehicles, killing two people and injuring one more this past June. The incident has received much attention online, with many people looking into the result of the investigation. However, after police claimed that Wang Jijin, the suspect in the crash, was suffering from what was termed as “acute short-term mental disorder” when he drove the car, a massive public outcry was heard immediately.
After the shocking footage was released online, it immediately went viral across the country, with netizens and the victims’ relatives demanding police to bring Wang to justice. However, that might not happen after some legal experts suggest the result of the investigation could give much more leniency regarding Wang’s punishment, and he might not face charges like intentional injury.
Netizens, on the other hand, were generally unconvinced over the results of the investigation, saying it was one-sided and authorities lacked sufficient proof. The victims’ relatives also “did not approve” of the results of the investigation.
