A bridge closed off to traffic and in the middle of being dismantled suddenly collapsed on Sunday in Taihe county, east China’s Jiangxi Province, leaving vehicles crushed by the falling debris and causing at least five injuries, with three people still missing, according to the local firefighting department.
Local firefighters said the bridge collapsed in the morning while workers were dismantling it. Two excavators and a truck as well as workers sitting in the vehicles all collapsed with the bridge after the accident. Firefighters rescued five seriously injured victims, and are still searching for others trapped in the debris. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
