Last Saturday an accident in Quanzhou, Fujian Province brought home the dangers of being a careless driver. Surveillance camera footage shows a car sliding backwards after the driver forgot to pull the handle-break. The driver is then seen desperately trying to stop the car with the weight of his body. However, the man was unexpectedly dragged underneath the car. He suffered multiple fractures and was rushed to an intensive care unit at a local hospital.
While this driver had a lucky escape, a study in the Lancet in December 2014 reported that road injuries were the third leading cause of death in China, ahead of all types of cancers combined. Following the accident, police officers have advised drivers to make sure to pull the car’s handle-break firmly and not to try to stop the car themselves physically.
