Massive flooding caused by heavy rainfall submerged roads and inundated buildings in many parts of south China’s Guangdong Province on Tuesday. In Huaiji county, the local river burst its banks, flooding nearby buildings and roads, and forcing some local residents to use boats to navigate the flooded streets.
Other sections of Guangdong have also been hit by torrential rains and strong gusts since Monday, with water levels in some rivers exceeding the province’s alert level. Some coastal townships recorded precipitation of more than 208 millimeters in 24 hours, accounting for about one tenth of the annual average.
