Heavy rain hit north China in recent days, causing severe floods, even in the mountains, and seriously disrupting the transport network. Authorities in Beijing raised the city’s heavy rain alert one grade up from yellow to orange on Wednesday. Orange is the second highest on China’s four-grade color-coded weather alert system. The change alerted city dwellers to the possibility of more rainstorms later in the day and overnight. In Hebei Province, the alert is already at its highest level – three red alerts for heavy rain were issued on Wednesday.
