Thailand’s former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra appeared in a criminal court on Friday for a hearing into her controversial rice subsidy scheme. Yingluck has been charged with negligence of duty as she failed to stop corruption within her administration’s rice subsidy program that cost the government billions of dollars. The current trial is scheduled to last until late 2016, and if found guilty, Yingluck could face up to 10 years in prison.
