France’s top court has suspended a ban on full-body burkini swimsuits in the Mediterranean town of Villeneuve-Loubet. The ban had sparked angry responses from both Muslims and social activists. The Council of State said the decree to ban burkinis in the southern French town breached the fundamental freedoms of individuals. The controversial issue has made France’s cultural identity a heated issue ahead of next year’s presidential election.
