A student delegation from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune will meet Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley over the appointment of the Institute’s Chairman. Students from the country’s premier film and TV institute have been agitating over the appointment of TV actor Gajendra Chauhan as the Institute’s Chairman. Students have boycotted classes and abandoned academic work in protest against the appointment of Chauhan, who they allege lacks “stature and vision” to head the premiere institution. Chauhan’s affiliation with the BJP has also been in focus and the students’ association has alleged that this appointment appeared “politically coloured” as Chauhan had no requisite “academic and artistic excellence”.
