Speaking against the move to bring in a Uniform Civil Code, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi stated that the law that states there should be a common code for all is a directive principle and that fundamental rights are above directive principles.
“Article 44 is a Directive Principle. Fundamental rights will always be above Directive Principles. Whether it is a right to equality, right to freedom of religion. The Union Finance Minister stated that if UCC comes into existence, the Hindu Undiuvided Family Tax rebates will not go. Now isn’t that contravening the fundamental right to equality, that a tax rebate is available to Hindus but unavailable to non-Hindus?,” claimed Asaduddin Owaisi.
