G20: Xi, Abe agree to step up dialogue over maritime disputes

President Xi Jinping also met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after the G20 Summit. They discussed maritime disputes, and both agreed to strengthen dialogue in order to ensure peace in the East China Sea. The two countries have competing claims over the Diaoyu Islands in the region. Abe also expressed his appreciation for China’s presidency of the G20 this year.
