BJP spokesperson today asserted that Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi will have to face the law in the National Herald case. “Law is same for everybody in India. Nobody can play hide and seek with it for long. Sonia Ji and Rahul will have to face the law,” he said. Earlier today, Delhi High Court rejected their plea to quash summons against them, ruling that they will have to appear in the trial court now. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had alleged that Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the publisher of the now-defunct National Herald newspaper, had received an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from the Congress and that the party transferred the debt to Young India Ltd (YIL), “a firm in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi each own a 38-percent stake”, for Rs 50 lakh. On June 26, the trial court issued summons to the Congress leaders on Swamy’s complaint on “cheating” in the acquisition of AJL, by YIL.
