Georgian PM resigns

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on Wednesday announced his resignation in Tbilisi.

In a five-minute televised statement, Garibashvili mentioned the reforms introduced during his two-year tensure, but failed to give a specific reason why he steps down.

Under the Geogian Constitution, the rulling Georgian Dream coalition will have to nominate a new prime minister within 7 days. The new prime minister will then name cabinet members who need to secure 76 votes among parliament members for approval.
