German interior minister proposes new security measures

Germany’s interior minister has proposed a raft of new security measures following a recent string of attacks, including two that were carried out by asylum-seekers and claimed by ISIL. Thomas de Maiziere announced the creation of a new directorate with a mandate to coordinate security responses to “very difficult situations” on a federal level. Germany is also considering screening public social media profiles of people being admitted to the country under humanitarian resettlement programs.
