Germany sees over 180,000 asylum applications in first quarter

Germany says it has registered over 181,000 asylum applications in the first quarter of 2016 – it was more than double the applications from the same period of last year. The big jump was due to the overwhelming number of migrants — more than one million — who arrived in Germany last year. They were first registered at shelters where they waited for months before filing for asylum.
