Gored in Hemingway’s way: 6 bulls vs. 650 medical staff in Pamplona

The festival of San Fermin, or the “running of the bulls”, has kicked off in north Spain’s Pamplona city.

This year, the organizers arranged 350 medical personnel as well as 300 first aid volunteers on the running event. Unfortunately, four runners received treatment after being gored and at least five others were recovering from sprains, bruises and a broken collarbone.

During the eight-day fiesta, six bulls race through the medieval streets every morning at 8 a.m., while thousands of thrill-seekers run alongside and in front of the ornery beasts.
