Government Ready For A Debate On JNU Issue

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday (February 16) said that government is ready for a debate in the Parliament on JNU incident. “We are ready for a debate in the Parliament over the event held at JNU on Afzal Guru’s death anniversary. We believe in the freedom of speech and press freedom. However, the larger issue is should a central university situated in the capital of India rant anti-India slogans,” said Prasad. He also questioned silence of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi over the matter. “I would like to ask Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Ji if they are ok with highly provocative anti-national slogans being raised by students at the university funded by government. This is the larger question,” he said. He further condemned the scuffle between lawyers and journalists which occurred at Patiala House court yesterday. “The incident is condemnable and regrettable. We don’t support any kind of violence and the Police should take action,” he said.
