Hajj 2016: 14,500 Chinese Muslims perform pilgrimage

Every year, thousands of Chinese Muslims undertake the Hajj, an annual Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. It is mandatory for all able-bodied Muslims who can afford it to perform at least one in their lifetime. The Hajj falls on the last month of the Islamic calendar and China puts on special charted flights to cater for the demand. Islam is one of the major religions in China, with more than 20 million followers. This year, 14,500 Chinese Muslims performed the Hajj. CCTV’s Adel el Mahrouky has more.
