‘Handover’ ceremony in Japan to mark the Year of the Monkey

With 2016 just around the corner, the city of Osaka in Japan on Monday held a New Year zodiac handover ceremony. A sheep, representing the animal for 2015, and a monkey, which will replace it to become the animal for 2016, were brought to the stage. Unlike China, where the New Year is marked as per the lunar calendar, Japan marks the new year handover on January 1.
