Monday marks the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar, which marks the last day of the Lunar New Year celebrations. To celebrate the day, people in ancient times carried paper lanterns and went out at night to the lantern fairs. They enjoyed lantern shows and played games that involved solving riddles displayed on the lanterns. Nowadays, the festival is not as popular as it used to be and many people have to work on the day, but the old traditions have passed down over time.
