Heavy rainfall affects almost a million in east China’s Jiangxi Province

A new round of heavy rainfall has pounded the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in east China’s Jiangxi Province, leaving two people dead and two missing. The rains affected more than 940,000 people, of which 58,000 had been relocated. About 63,000 hectares of farmland were damaged, with losses amounting up to 750 million yuan (115 million US dollars). The province has enacted emergency measures to counter the extreme weather, and issued an orange alert for flooding in the Yangtze River.
