Hema Malini Accused Of Destroying Mangroves

Actress and BJP’s Lok Sabha member Hema Malini has disputed charges of land grabbing and said will follow all rules and regulations prescribed by the Maharashtra government. However, according to the Maharashtra government, Hema Malini has in the past been guilty of violating coastal regulation zone or CRZ norms by destroying mangroves, an RTI activist has claimed. In 1997, the Shiv Sena-BJP government allotted a 1,741 square metre plot to her in Ambivali village in Andheri for setting up a dance school. A year later the suburban collector issued a notice to her asking why the letter of intent issued to her for the allotment of land should not be cancelled because she had violated CRZ norms. According to the notice issued on August 28, 1998, the tehsildar of Andheri had submitted a report to the collector that mangroves were cut down by the actress.
