Honoring a Tunisian diva at the International Festival of Carthage

A Tunisian diva, and a UNESCO World-Heritage site, were the joint stars of the International Festival of Carthage over the weekend. Now in its fifty-first year, the festival runs through July and August at the Roman Theatre of Carthage and particularly welcomes performers from Arab countries.

It’s a bit of a mouthful – Beya Bent Béchir Ben Hédi Rahal – but to her fans, she’s better known as “Oulaya”. And Saturday night’s opening performance was a tribute to her.
