Chinese novels always provide great inspiration for movies. Yan Geling is one of the writers who provided bountiful inspiration to the Chinese film industry. Born in Shanghai, in the late 1950s, Yan experienced massive changes within her home country and the perils of conflict as a war correspondent. It motivated her to start a career in writing. Her latest work, Youth, which is a biographical novel, was adapted into a film by Chinese director Feng Xiaogang. Before the movie’s release, CGTN’s Tian Wei spoke to Yan, to learn about her insights.
