China has launched the world’s first quantum satellite into space, taking its scientists a step closer towards securing “hack-proof” communications using quantum technology. Will this make China a space superpower? Yang Yuguang, a professor at the China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation; Robert Young, a reader of quantum information at the University of Lancaster; Amitabha Ghosh, chair of the Science Operations Group under the NASA Mars Rover Mission; and John Horack, a professor from Ohio State University, discuss the “quantum leap”.
