Hubei’s second largest lake embankments demolished to reduce flood risk

Demolition work of the embankments of Liangzi Lake in Hubei Province was completed on Thursday morning, diverting water into the adjacent Niushan Lake, creating a new lake 48% larger in surface area but with a lower water level. The demolition was aimed at reducing the risk of a levee breach as more rainfalls are expected in the coming days in the flood-lashed province. Liangzi Lake is the second largest in Hubei.
