Humanitarian aid of USD 9.2 mln arrives in quake-hit Ecuador from China

The first plane of aid materials from China arrives in the Mariscal Sucre International Airport of Quito on April 27, a timely help for tens of thousands of victims of the magnitude-7.8 earthquake that struck Ecuador 11 days ago.

(Soundbite) Wang Yulin, Chinese Ambassador to Ecuador:
“China and Ecuador are two friendly countries and our two peoples are brothers. At this difficult time, China is with Ecuador .”

Another four Chinese flights will be here later, with all the goods aboard worth about 9.2 million U.S. dollars.

(Soundbite) Guillaume Long, Foreign Minister of Ecuador
“It is in this moment of difficulty that true friends arise. Ecuador thanks them. It has been years since our two countries established this relationship of brotherhood.”

The aid concludes thousands of tents, folding beds and other supplies.

These are addition to two million U.S. dollars donated to Ecuador last week by the Chinese government, as well as 100,000 U.S. dollars by the Red Cross of China.
