Hundreds take part in naked cycling in Mexico City

The cyclists get painted for a weekend leisure riding on June 11 in Mexico City.

The only difference from other weekends is that they are naked.

“Today we are participating in the World Naked Bike Ride. This is an international event and it is the 11th year for the event. We are demonstrating against the aggressions we suffer as cyclists. If you do not see me dressed and with safety equipment, that is for it.”

Some riders are fully nude, while others wear masks, sunglasses, hats, ties or pants in the movement that they think demands awareness of cycling safety.

(Soundbite, Spanish) Ernesto Soria, Participant
“We do it naked to demand respect for cyclists and pedestrians. Even in the big city with traffic lights, one can be run over and get killed.”

Hundreds of participants traveled 23 kilometers through thoroughfares circling the capital city.
