Icefall forms outside 7-floor building

An icefall has formed outside a seven-floor building in northeast China due to a water heater leak in the cold winter.

It’s a freezing winter in Changchun, capital of northeastern Jilin Province.

A water heater on the top floor – the seventh – of the building is leaking. And water flows to the first floor.

A massive icefall has amazingly formed! What a spectacle!

But the icefall with icicles has affected classrooms of a training school on the first floor.

Floors, roofs, and windows are damaged.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE): WEI XUAN, Head of the training school
“Over the past ten days, the icefall has gradually formed. This is the second time in the winter that such a thing has happened …”

Pedestrians have to bypass the place. Nobody parks a car near the building.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE): Changchun resident
“We can’t walk near here. It’s too dangerous if an icicle falls down.”

The owner of the apartment with the leaking water heater is not in the city. The icefall is yet to be dealt with for the sake of property safety on lower floors.
