Implement Street Vendors Act in Delhi: Congress

Congress today demanded to immediately implement Street Vendors Act passed by UPA over a year ago in the national capital. Speaking on the issue, Congress leader Ajay Maken said, “The main complaint was that the municipal corporation has failed to issue vendors licence. The Bill was passed by UPA in March 2014 but the BJP Priyanka yes

ruled Municipal Corporation has failed to issue the scheme.” Congress has claimed that not a single vending certificate has been issued till date. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi interacted with street vendors in Delhi this morning to address their rights. On February 19, 2014, Rajya Sabha had passed the bill which aims to regulate street vending and protect the rights of urban street vendors, besides ensuring steps against their harassment by police and civic authorities. The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Bill, 2014 — which Lok Sabha had cleared on September 6 of last year — also provides for protection of livelihood rights and social security of street vendors.
