Abuzz with excitement and vibrant celebrations, non-resident Indians from all across North America gathered to celebrate the 69th year of India’s independence in New York and San Francisco. Organized by Federation of Indian Associations, the annual extravaganza saw an enormous crowd in attendance, a mere reflection of the 3.2 million Indians in the United States of America. The 35th India Day Parade, held at Madison Avenue featured 26 exquisite floats, 20 marching groups and 6 professional bands. Attempting to break two Guinness world records that of the most amount of confetti popped at an event and also the maximum number of flags representing different regions of the world being unfurled, the largest India Day parade held outside India was a great success. Popular Indian celebrities from across fields added to the grandeur of the celebrations. Actors Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Rampal were Grand Marshalls. While Ace cricketer Virendra Sehwag was the guest of honour at the prestigious parade. The comptroller of New York, Scott Stringer, the Chief Minister of Haryana ML Khattar, Musical genius Shankar Mahadevan and television stars Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aamir Ali and Karishma Tanna also graced the occasion with their presence. San Francisco was not far behind and the Indian American community showed up in large numbers to commemorate the independence of their native land and turned the event into a mega hit.
