India pledges to cut emissions intensity to help fight climate change

India unveiled new renewable energy targets to fight climate change ahead of a climate summit in Paris beginning in late November. Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar held a press conference on Friday on the government’s new “climate action plan”. India, the world’s third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, pledged to cut the emissions intensity of its GDP by up to 35 percent by 2030 from 2005 levels.
