Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two-day visit to Iran, where he held talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, discussing issues including trade, energy, and infrastructure. Both sides are planning to develop the Chabahar port in southeast Iran to expand a trade route for the land-locked countries of central Asia. India also hopes to import more oil from Iran and develop a gas field there, which is already India’s second-largest crude supplier. Tehran has been seeking to reintegrate itself into the global economic system after world powers lifted nuclear-related sanctions earlier this year.
