India has announced it will ratify the Paris Agreement on climate change on October 2. Indian PM Narendra Modi says the ratification date is the same day that leader of the Indian independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi, was born. UN says that 60 countries, accounting for around 48 percent of global gas emissions, have already joined the agreement. India currently accounts for around 4.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
