Indian trooper killed in Kashmir by suspected militants

An Indian border guard has been killed after a group of suspected militants opened fired on an army camp in Kashmir. An Indian army official said the militants tried to break through the camp’s perimeter but were driven back. The development comes two weeks after a similar deadly attack escalated tension with Pakistan. New Delhi responded by launching what it has called “surgical strikes” on militant posts near the border last week. Troops regularly exchange fire across the disputed border known as the Line of Control in Kashmir, but sending ground troops over the line is rare.
