Indonesia has executed four convicted drug traffickers, three of whom are Nigerians. They were shot by firing squad during a thunderstorm shortly after midnight on a prison island in Central Java. Ten other convicts who had been expected to be put to death were given a stay of execution. Several countries and international organizations protested the execution, but Indonesia’s Deputy Attorney-General Noor Rachmad said the authorities were implementing the law.
