Inflation in India rises in May due to higher food prices

India’s inflation rose faster than expected in May due to higher food prices. Government data showed the rate accelerated to 5.76 percent year-on-year, scoring higher than previous months. The central bank has targeted the inflation rate to be at five percent by March 2017. The new numbers will likely lead the Reserve Bank of India to hold off lowering interest rates.
