International Day Against Drug Abuse: Chinese customs’ war on drugs

Today marks the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. China’s customs have seized over 15 tons of illegal drugs since 2014. But newly released data indicates a rising drug trafficking trade in the country, with Chinese customs officers uncovering more than 1,000 drug trafficking cases in the last two years. Nearly 45 percent were carried out by people posing as tourists, and the same amount was discovered being sent through post and express services.
