One of China’s biggest milk producers – Mengniu Dairy Group – has been struggling to recover its reputation from the 2008 milk contamination scandal in China, when several companies were found to have sold baby milk tainted with poisonous chemicals. Since the scandal people from the Chinese mainland have been flooding into Hong Kong and other markets to buy foreign brand infant formula. Euromonitor, a research group, expects that annual demand for baby milk formula will double to 25 billion dollars over the next four years, by which time China will account for half of all sales globally. Mengniu’s CEO Sun Yiping speaks to CCTVNEWS about the measures the company has been taking to improve food safety.
