Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his main ally were the frontrunners after the early and partial counting of votes for the Assembly of Experts elections on Saturday. The 88-member assembly is a committee of clerics that appoints the country’s supreme leader. The final and official results are expected on Sunday. Many analysts say the election results could accelerate the Islamic republic’s emergence from years of isolation.
