This week, the Trump administration has re-imposed sanctions on Iran which were lifted three years ago by the Iran Nuclear Deal. Optimism was high at that time that the agreement would help to bring stability and peaceful progress to the region. President Trump has stated he is willing to meet with President Rouhani, but his apparent opposition to anything achieved by President Obama has led him to unilaterally withdraw the United States from the deal. Meanwhile, the European Union is looking for ways to protect its companies from potential punitive measures if they choose not to toe the US line, and Iran is working to revitalize its economy in the face of America’s animosity and unpredictability.
