Iraq: New F-16 jets to join fight against IS “very soon”

U.S. and Iraqi officials have touted the delivery of F-16 fighter jets as a “major milestone” in the partnership between the two countries.

The delivery came less than two weeks after Iraq began a major offensive against the Islamic State in Anbar province.

The Islamic State’s capture of Ramadi more than two months ago marked the Iraqi government’s biggest defeat against the IS militants.

Iraqi officials have pledged to quickly put these planes into combat against the Islamic State.
