More than 52 families who were used by the Islamic State as “human shields” in Ramadi have been freed by the Iraqi military. The Iraqi Anti-Terrorism Unit said on Tuesday that the residents have been given food and first aid and will be taken to secure locations. According to the International Organization, the residents of Anbar account for more than a third of the 3.2 million people who have been displaced by conflict in Iraq since the start of 2014.
