Iraqi, Kurdish forces retake 20 villages of Mosul from ISIL

Iraqi and Kurdish Peshmerga forces say a total of 20 villages were captured from ISIL militants east, south and southeast of Mosul as of early Tuesday. On Wednesday, Kurdish Peshmerga forces advanced on the village of Bartella, some 21 kilometers east of Mosul, as part of the wider operation to drive ISIL from the area. Meanwhile, Iraqi forces prepared to retake the country’s largest Christian town Qaraqosh from ISIL, a key milestone in their progress towards the jihadists’ hub of Mosul.
