Iraqi Kurdish leader meets Erdogan as PM defends troop deployment

Iraqi Kurdish leader Massud Barzani met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for key talks on Wednesday as Ankara seeks to defuse a diplomatic standoff with Baghdad over the deployment of Turkish troops in northern Iraq. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu also met Barzani, defending Turkish soldiers being sent to northern Iraq after a threat from Islamic State militants to Turkish military trainers in the area increased. The deployment was an act of solidarity, not aggression, he said.
